Dr Tan Heng Hao is an experienced MOH accredited IVF Specialist, Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgeon. He was the Medical Director of Alpha IVF Center (Singapore) from 2019 to 2024.

Dr Tan's Passion for Care

Dr Tan Heng Hao has been involved in the field of reproductive medicine since the start of his career as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist (O&G). He is a Ministry of Health (MOH) accredited IVF specialist in Singapore, having had more than 10 years of prior experience as a Medical Director of the In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) Centre in both KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital’s (KKH) and to a private centre.

He was previously an Adjunct Associate Professor and the Head of Department in Reproductive Medicine KKH. He served as a Senior Consultant in KKH Endometriosis Centre and Maternity Services. He took the helm of numerous leadership positions.

They included:

  • Director of the National Sperm Bank
  • Deputy Chairman of the Division of O&G
  • Previous Section Chair of Reproductive Medicine in College of O&G (Singapore)

In 2020, he achieved a successful pregnancy and delivery in a 47-year-old woman with Asherman’s syndrome through her own eggs in an IVF cycle. He believes that this is the oldest local IVF livebirth after the lifting of the 45 years age limit in women undergoing in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment locally.

Clinical Expertise

Prior to his private practice, Dr Tan Heng Hao spent more than two decades in public service. He served as the Head of Department in Reproductive Medicine, and was a Senior Consultant in the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital’s (KKH) Endometriosis Centre and Maternity Services. While at KKH, he was also appointed the Director of the In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) Centre & National Sperm Bank. He currently sits on the MOH Assisted Reproduction Service Advisory Committee in Singapore.

As an MOH certified IVF specialist, his expertise lies in journeying with infertile couples, IVF treatments, managing pregnancies and general gynaecological conditions.

Throughout his practice, Dr Tan functions on the belief that holistic fertility care goes beyond simply providing therapeutic solutions. He believes in providing personalised treatment with the latest IVF technologies, understanding each patient’s perspective, and providing an optimal environment for optimal outcomes.

In addition to being a Ministry Of Health (MOH) accredited IVF specialist in Singapore, he is trained in advanced endoscopy and reproductive surgery for fertility enhancement.

Education and Training

Dr. Tan is currently a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG). In 2005, he received the Gold Medal award at the IV Asian Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for his performance in the Masters of Medicine Examination at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

In 2009, he furthered his passion, and pursued advanced training in reproductive surgery with a focus on endoscopy at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, under the Asia-Pacific Association for Gynecologic Endoscopic Surgeons, supported by the Ministry’s Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) award. He remains one of the few doctors in Singapore performing laparoscopic tubal reversals.

In 2013, Dr. Tan completed a Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Management & Leadership from Singapore Management University, reflecting his continued interest in healthcare management.

Professional Recognition

He was a Clinical Core Faculty Member in the OBGYN Residency Program and a Clinical Senior Lecturer with Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He was appointed an Adjunct Associate Professor with both the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.

Medical Teaching

Beyond his clinical work, Dr Tan Heng Hao is also passionate about medical education and held the appointment of Adjunct Associate Professor at both the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He served as a Clinical Core Faculty Member in the OBGYN Residency Programme and a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. During his tenure at KKH, he also served as the Deputy Chairman of the Division of O&G and was previously the Section Chair of Reproductive Medicine in the College of O&G Singapore.

In recognition of his passion for nurturing the future generation of O&G specialists. In 2013, as recognition for his efforts as an Outstanding Clinical Teacher in training the next generation of O&G specialists, he was awarded the KK People Developer Award.
